Fort Knox annual Memorial Day Ceremony, cemetery visitation

Fort Knox will host its annual Memorial Day ceremony May 26 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff at 11:30 a.m.

U.S. Army Cadet Command and Fort Knox Commander Brig. Gen. Maurice Barnett will serve as the keynote speaker.

The ceremony will honor those who died while serving in the U.S. military and include music from the 100th Army Band, featuring the national anthem and “America the Beautiful.” The event will also feature a Prisoners of War/Missing in Action remembrance, 21-gun salute, wreath laying and the playing of taps.

Golf carts will be available to assist attendees with mobility issues.

Fort Knox will also open its gates from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day to allow visitors access to the 122 cemeteries on post. Checkpoints will be open during those hours, including Belmont Gate, Highway 313/251, 7th Armored Division Road, 7th Armored Division Cutoff Road, Porter River Road, Main Range, and Baker and Mount Eden gates.

Visitors 18 and older must present a REAL ID or driver’s license with valid supplemental documentation, along with a current address and cell phone number, at all checkpoints except Chaffee and Wilson gates, which require only a REAL ID or driver’s license with valid supplemental documentation. A list of approved supplemental documents is available at https://home.army.mil/knox/about/Garrison/directorate-emergency-services/physical-security-division/access-control/real-id-act.

A Fort Knox Cultural Resources representative at the Fort Knox Visitor Center can assist with checkpoint locations and provide event maps. Fort Knox Range Branch staff will also be available at gate checkpoints to help locate gravesites.
