Fort Knox Annual Memorial Day Ceremony and Cemetery Visitation

The installation’s annual Memorial Day ceremony will take place at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central at 11:30 a.m. on May 25, and the 118 on-post cemeteries will also be open for visitation. The ceremony will include remarks from U.S. Army Cadet Command and Fort Knox Deputy Commanding General Brig. Gen. Sean Crockett as well as a ceremonial wreath laying – a tradition that honors all U.S. service members who lost their lives in defense of the United States. The ceremony will also feature music from the 100th Army Band, a Prisoner of War/Missing in Action remembrance, playing of the national anthem and taps, a 21-gun cannon salute and a ceremonial folding of the American flag.

Also, on that day, the on-post cemeteries will be open for visitation from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fort Knox Range Operations staff will be stationed at checkpoints within the range complex to assist those seeking specific grave sites. Checkpoints will be at: Belmont Gate and Mount Eden gate, and intersections of Highway 313/251; 7th Armored Division & 7th Armored Division Cutoff Roads; Porter River and Main Range Roads; and Baker and Wilson Roads. Those in need of assistance or directions can also visit the Fort Knox Visitor Center at the Chaffee (main) Gate that day to speak with a Cultural Resources team member and obtain event-specific maps.

Visitors aged 18 and older must provide a REAL ID or driver’s license with valid accompanying supplemental documents, and a valid address and cell phone number when entering any checkpoints. Those entering through Chaffee (main) Gate will only need a REAL ID or driver’s license with valid accompanying supplemental documentation. A list of approved supplemental documentation can be found at https://home.army.mil/knox/about/Garrison/directorate-emergency-services/physical-security-division/access-control. All vehicles are subject to search upon entry. Prohibited items include: firearms, alcohol or glass containers of any kind, digging implements and metal detectors. Visitors are required to stay on the established road network while in the range complex.
